Weekend reading


I'm really looking forward to the end of summer so I can get back into baking and doing housework without sweating or needing to sit down afterwards.  Boy oh boy, has this been a hot summer.

  3. I agree with you about the heat. I heard on the radio this afternoon that the temps in Hervey Bay are 13 degrees above average. I baked today and the house is so HOT!!!!! We needed bread and whilst the oven was going I made an apple cake to use up the sad looking apples in the fruit bowl. So looking forward to it being cooler.

  4. Gosh Rhonda, I think you have been having Tasmania`s share of summer. We had highland snow in the week before Christmas and snow is again forecast for the southeast this weekend. Our summer has been cool- 18-24 degrees with a cool wind blowing. It`s hard to get the tomatoes to ripen!

  8. Thank you for the reading list, great, as usual. I make your no knead bread all the time, lately found that you can cook it in a slow cooker, good for hot days when you don't want your oven on. We've had a cold summer here in Albany,WA, over the last couple of days it's been raining like blazes, luckily the farmers have their crops in.

  9. (((Hugs))) Rhonda, I really appreciate your sharing my postcard project! I thought I would add a tip I do for my chickies in the heat of the desert. I freeze the rinds to watermelon and melon. I deliver midday "treats" to my henny penny's as I am a mother hen for all our farm critters! Thank you so much, Jennifer in New Mexico USA

  10. Thanks for the link about keeping chickens cool in a heatwave, I've passed it on to my daughter, she lost one of her hens yesterday due to the heatwave in nsw. Like you I'm looking forward to summer ending.

    1. Barbara, it's a small Minton blue delft tea cup. I bought it in a box of junk at an antiques auction about 20 years ago. I like using everything I have, including the special things, so it's doing a stint of duty in the flour jar at the moment.

  12. I am in the United States - as I read you today - I am in warm slippers, blanket over my legs, hot coffee next to me - and watching a big snowstorm out my window! Hope you get some relief from the heat soon.
